Arsenal v Chelsea: player ratings

Telegraph Sport runs the rule over the Arsenal and Chelsea players following Monday night's Premier League meeting at the Emirates Stadium

Arsenal
Wojciech Szczrsny
Watched one Lampard shot hit the underside of the bar and saved another effort from the midfielder. Otherwise, it was a comfortable evening for the Arsenal keeper. 7/10

Bacary Sagna
Upset Mourinho by going down in a heap by the touchline after being caught by Lampard. Tried to raid forwards when he could and nearly set up Giroud in the first half.

Per Mertesacker
Arsenal’s German found it easy against Torres. He also dealt with Chelsea set pieces into the Arsenal area with Terry and Cahill threatening.

Thomas Vermaelen
The captain came in for the injured Laurent Koscielny and was rarely tested by Chelsea’s front players. Will have been relieved to see Lampard hit the bar, when he was caught out of position.

Kieran Gibbs
Produced a wonderful cross in the final five minutes that almost helped Giroud win the game for Arsenal. Another good display from one of Arsenal’s most improved players this season.

Mikel Arteta
Almost had his night ended early by a nasty tackle from Mikel. Shielded the Arsenal defence well and found his team-mates with the ball. Ramires also cleaned the Spaniard out.

Aaron Ramsey
Poor first-half from Arsenal’s star man this season. Gave the ball away far too cheaply and almost set Chelsea away for a goal. Could not get into dangerous areas to provide a threat.

Theo Walcott
Should have been awarded a penalty after being fouled by Willian. Rarely managed to break away with pace down the right. Mourinho knew Chelsea had to stop the winger and they succeded.

Mesut Özil
Mourinho’s tactic of putting Mikel in a reserved role to counter the threat of Ozil paid off. The German could not produce any moments of magic to win the game for Arsenal.

Tomas Rosicky
Wenger’s man for the big occasion. He was certainly fired up – flying into tackles and shouting at his team-mates. Produced some of Arsenal’s best moments on the ball.

Olivier Giroud
The striker was fairly quiet until he was presented with a wonderful opportunity to open the scoring in the 79th minute. Unfortunately for the hosts, he wasted it and saw another late effort saved. 5

Chelsea
Petr Cech
Had barely anything to do until he was forced to make a point-blank stop from Giroud. It proved to be a crucial save and earned Chelsea a point.

Branislav Ivanovic
Dependable for the visitors. Made one high challenge on Ozil that upset the Arsenal players. But Mourinho will have been pleased with his performance.

Gary Cahill
Vital interception from a Sagna cross, which Giroud was ready to turn into the net. Possibly the best defender on the pitch. Got in the way of a shot from Ozil that could have troubled Cech.

John Terry
Arsenal will have been worried about Terry’s threat from corners and set-pieces. He could not make a vital contribution in the opposition penalty area, but defended well.

César Azpilicueta
Escaped unpunished after making a late challenge on Ramsey. Kept Walcott quiet and did not allow the pacey winger any space behind him. Cleared the ball off the line in injury-time.

John Obi Mikel
Mourinho decided to put Mikel into the centre of his midfield in a bid to nullify the threat of Mesut Ozil, which he largely managed. Lucky to stay on the pitch, following a terrible challenge on Arteta.

Ramires
Headed over the crossbar from a Willian cross. One of four ever-presents in the Chelsea team in the Premier League. Effectively shut down Ramsey, but made a bad challenge on Arteta.

Frank Lampard
Rattled the underside of the crossbar with a brilliant volley from Hazard’s chipped pass over the top. Replays showed the ball was nowhere near crossing the line.

Willian
Got away with a foul on Walcott in his own area, when he did not make contact with the ball. There was much promise in many of the forward’s runs, but he failed to produce an end product.

Eden Hazard
A wonderful ball over the top that allowed Lampard to rattle the underside of the crossbar. Otherwise, the Belgian was quiet and could not find a way through the Arsenal defence. 6

Fernando Torres
Worked tirelessly for Chelsea without carrying much threat in front of goal. He helped lift some of the pressure on the visitors by hounding down Arsenal’s players. 6
