Manchester City Unable to Crosss Stamford Bridge, Beaten 2-1 as Fernando Torres nets late winner

Fernando Torres snatched a late winner in a pulsating match at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea beat fellow title hopefuls Manchester City 2-1 to climb to second in the Premier League. Torres had earlier set up Andre Schurrle brilliantly to make it 1-0 to the Blues after 33 minutes, only for Sergio Aguero to power in a superb leveller in the 49th minute. Both sides had chances in an exciting finale but it looked like they would have to settle for a point apiece until Torres capitalised on a defensive mix-up between Matija Nastasic and Joe Hart to seal victory. Jose Mourinho kept faith with Torres up front following his two goals against Schalke and Chelsea began brightly as they looked to test a defence marshalled by Nastasic and debutant Martin Demichelis in the absence of injured captain Vincent Kompany. However, after one anxious moment when Gary Cahill volleyed over the top as the offside flag stayed down from an Oscar cross, Manuel Pellegrini's side soon set

As It Happened AC Milan 1 vs Barcelona 1

The third round of matches in the Champions League group stage gave us a clash of timeless champions, as Barcelona took on AC Milan at San Siro on Tuesday evening. An energetic and high-tempo first half saw two goals, but the second half was a rather more tepid affair lacking in imagination, and the score remained 1-1. It took Milan only eight minutes to take the lead, but they'd already had one in the net before then—Sulley Muntari's finish was ruled offside. It counted shortly afterwards, though, as Kaka and Robinho made the most of some hesitation in Barcelona's defence, before the latter drove a low finish past Victor Valdes to open the scoring.  Robinho Was hugely lively in the first half, showing some terrific off-the-ball movement and work rate for his team while throwing a few tricks and flicks in for good measure when in possession. Took his goal well to give Milan the lead early on. His effectiveness quickly wore off, though, and he missed t

As It Happened Schalke 0 vs Chelsea 3

In his 100th start for Chelsea, Fernando Torres was the name being mentioned by fans all across Europe after his side took down Schalke , 3-0, at the Veltins Arena in a UEFA Champions League Group E match.  Torres, who has been often criticized for his lack of goal scoring since his move from Liverpool in 2011, converted two tap-ins to vault Chelsea atop Group E. The Spanish forward got on the board just five minutes into the match as he headed home his 38th career goal for the London club past Schalke keeper Timo Hildebrand . Torres was able to flick his header past Hildebrand because of a brilliant headed assist by Branislav Ivanovic from Chelsea's second corner kick. It would take 63 minutes until Torres was celebrating with his teammates once more as he finished off a three-on-one counter attack that was mainly powered by Oscar. By scoring his second goal, Torres equaled his goal total in the competition from when he was a player at Liverpool: Osca

As It Happened Arsenal 1 vs Borussia Dortmund 2 at Emirates Stadium

A late Robert Lewandowski strike gave Borussia Dortmund a 2-1 lead away to Arsenal with only eight minutes remaining on Tuesday. And with the Gunners having expended all their energy in search of a winner throughout much of the second period, they had little left in the tank as time expired at a rain-soaked Emirates Stadium.   Marco Reus Arsenal had restored level terms coming out of the opening period thanks to an Olivier Giroud goal that cancelled out Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s 16th-minute opener. But the Lewandowski winner ensured Dortmund left London with six points in Group F—the same number taken by both Arsenal and Napoli from three matches.   Mikel Arteta Robert Lewandowski Source: b/r

Ronaldo is a 'Real Machine,' Says Pique

Gerard Pique says he admires the work ethic and ambition of Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo. The Barcelona defender believes the Portugal international's drive and determination is why he is considered one of the best players in the world. Ahead of their Clasico encounter Oct. 26, Pique said it is hard not to like Ronaldo for his hard work. He is quoted by Marca as saying: “[Cristiano Ronaldo] has not changed; he is a player that I have always admired because he is a hard worker that always wants more and more. He is a real machine and very ambitious. He never ever stops trying to improve. Some say he is the best but he still wants to get better, and for that reason I admire him.” Pique also commented on the long-standing rivalry between Barca and Los Blancos , claiming his side has surpassed   Madrid since the turn of the century, with the help of La Masia, the youth academy that has produced most of the club's first-team stars. “Barcelona have al

Januzaj’s future is with Manchester United. Says Moyes

Manchester United's manager, David Moyes is confident thatAdnan Januzaj will remain with the premier League Champion. The 18-year-old’s future at Old Trafford is in question after it was revealed that his contract expires at the end of this season - though United has ramped up its efforts to keep the teenager at the club. Yet Moyes believes the Belgian-born attacker would be best served by staying at United and placed his talent alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney. Asked whether he felt Januzaj would leave the club Moyes said: "You're 18, you’re playing for Manchester United — I don’t know where else you would really want to play." Januzaj highlighted his promise with a double against Sunderland to haul the Red Devils to victory after they fell a goal behind at the Stadium of Light, leading Moyes to compare him to the likes of Rooney. "Wayne Rooney, Charlie Nicholas, Paul McStay — Adnan would be in that category," Moyes added

Arsene Wenger speaks out over Wilshere's England debate. Via HITC SPORT

The frenzy kicked up over Jack Wilshere's comments surrounding nationality and representing one's country has transcended football, into the wider sporting world and hit all pages in national newspapers. The Twittersphere has been central to the backlash, with prominent cricketer Kevin Pietersen asking Wilshere on social media for his exact definition of a foreigner and whether that includes himself and other athletes who have represented Britain such as Justin Rose and Mo Farah. Wilshere maintains his name is being dragged through the mud be the media, has clarified his position, insisted that people like Pietersen, Farah and Wilfried Zaha 'make the country proud' , but that his personal view on football is that he disagrees with the option available to footballers that allows them to go to a new country in adulthood, obtain a passport and then represent that national team. It is an opinion that differs to his manager at Arsenal and long-time me

Updates On Wayne Rooney Including Issues with SAF and His Position

Everyone at the club knew that’s where I wanted to play. That’s why I was disappointed because I got told to play in midfield and I didn’t want to but I’d always go in and try to help the team. There had to come a point where for my own career I had to be a bit selfish really. I actually felt when I played midfield I did OK but I didn’t want to play there. I felt I deserved the right to play in my position and that wasn’t happening. I can play midfield. Maybe when I’m a bit older, losing my legs a bit, I can go back there. David Moyes has come in and he’s playing me up front and I’m enjoying it. I really have been happy all summer. From the outside looking in, it might not seem like it but I’ve been settled. My wife had a new child and I’ve been really happy and focused and I’m just delighted to be back playing and injury-free and fit. " I’m actually a bit disappointed with my record. I feel I should’ve scored more for England," he said. "

Updates on Vincent Kompany's Injury

Vincent Kompany will undergo a scan in a Manchester hospital on Monday after suffering a groin problem which caused him to be substituted after 34 minutes of Manchester City's 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. Initial tests have shown that he has a slightly inflamed muscle, though it is not in the same area as the previous groin problem he suffered that kept him out of three Premier League matches before he made his return to the squad for a Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen.

Sportmail understands the 30-year-old has privately acknowledged that this will be his final season at the club—and is preparing for life away from London. Given his age, this will be Sagna's last major contract and the right-back knows leaving on a free transfer offers him the best prospect of a hefty pay day.   Mwenywe anasema : I love my team, and I always give my best. I'm still here. Many people were talking about me going back to France but I'm still here and I'm looking forward to a big season with Arsenal. b/r

Kwa nini Jack Wilshere Ambanie Adnan Januzaj Kuichezea England? Bofya Hapa Usome.

Yeye anaamini kwamba: The only people who should play for England are English people. If you live in England for five years it doesn’t make you English. If I went to Spain and lived there for five years I’m not going to play for Spain. Yahoo Sports nayo ilimnukuu FA chairman Greg Dyke akisema: It is an issue we need to look at. The idea that someone who is not born here can never play for England is a bit extreme. We wouldn't have Mo Farah if that was the case. We (FA) will discuss our policy again and make a decision.

forward Javier Hernandez has sent a message to David Moyes that he needs to start more games at club level, otherwise he may have to take his predatory striking instincts elsewhere.   I strive for that [to start more games]. I am working towards that—earning a spot as a starter. I know that my performance on the pitch will allow me to achieve that goal someday either here [in Manchester] or elsewhere for any other club. I am going on four years here [at Manchester United] and really, like I have always said, I am happy to be able to play for one of the best clubs in the world, doing my best every single day to earn more minutes on the pitch. I just need to be given more opportunities to showcase what I can do, because all of us want to be able to contribute our part so this team can win championships.

Barca have tracked the teenager’s progress since before he joined United from Anderlecht in 2011. They are ever more confident that Januzaj will move to the Nou Camp when his deal runs out in eight months. Januzaj has just eight months to run on his current deal and has caught the attention of Europe's elite clubs, following his stunning brace against Sunderland. Barcelona are one of these clubs and have kept tabs on the youngster's progress for a number of years. They will hope negotiations continue to stall amid rumblings that Januzaj feels unappreciated since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. However, according to Sky Sports, Wilmots believes the player is close to signing a new contract at Old Trafford. Januzaj recently spoke positively of his time at United, telling programme United Review  in quotes reported by David McDonnell of the  Daily Mirror : I’m really enjoying myself. Rooney Confession: Manchester United squad has let Moyes down

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney admits that manager David Moyes is "under a bit of pressure" but feels that he and his fellow players are to blame. Despite coming from behind to beat Sunderland on Saturday, the Red Devils are only ninth in the Premier League table after seven games. Rooney has urged his teammates to use the comeback against the Black Cats as motivation in the future, and says the squad is still adapting to Moyes' style. "Obviously the manager is under a bit of pressure," Rooney told reporters. "We know as a team it's us who have let him down. We have to pull together for the manager and show the sort of fight we have done here and we'll be fine. "It will be because it's a new manager with different styles and we have to adapt to them. We need to do better for him than we have been." Adnan Januzaj was the hero for United at the Stadium of Light. On his first start, the 18-year-old sco
